Recently, we spent part of an afternoon exploring the colorful town in more detail, including the Historic Terlingua Cemetery, which dates back to the early 1900's. Many of the townspeople buried here in the early days were mine workers who succumbed to the dangerous working conditions of the mercury mines or the influenza epidemic of 1918. The cemetery is still in use today by the local community and many of the graves, both old and new exhibit the character and individualism of both the community and the individuals who called Terlingua home.
