Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July All!

Greetings from Reno, Nevada on Independence Day 2014. For the second year in a row, we find ourselves working all day in a visitor center on the 4th when everyone else is out enjoying the holiday. Of course we really have nothing to complain about! Not only do we enjoy chatting with all the visitors who are out enjoying the beautiful holiday here in the Reno/Tahoe area, but we just came back from a fantastic four and a half day trip to Yosemite National Park in California, on our days off.  Because of a small scheduling change in our hours last week, we found ourselves with 5 days to work with rather than four as our "off" days and it came when we had already been planning a trip to Yosemite!

We camped four nights at three different campgrounds within the park and spent sun-up to sundown each day hiking, touring and enjoying the incredibly varied landscapes, elevations and natural wonders that Yosemite has to offer. Alpine Meadows with wildflowers and meandering streams, sheer rock walls of dizzying heights including El Capitan & Half Dome rising up from the valley floor, silent deep forests of Giant Sequoias, and an awe-inspiring collection of waterfalls breaking over rocky cliff tops in a soft roar that can be heard long before you set eyes on the falling water.

Spending time both on the beaten path and off, we were able to appreciate the park from every angle, gazing up, peering down, and hiking over, under, around and through some of the most incredible terrain imaginable in one place. We saw too many incredible landscapes, trees, plants and wildlife to post about in one blog entry (we probably came away with 100+ photos!), so I will leave you with just a taste for some of the things we saw and will post additional photos in a few separate Yosemite blog entries.

I hope everyone reading this is having a great day, enjoying picnics, fireworks or whatever else your day is filled with this fourth of July!
