de Tocqueville never saw this on his travels...

After traveling all day on Thursday we stopped for the night at the shining beacon of intellect called SOUTH OF THE BORDER. If you've ever traveled the 95 corridor from the northeast to the South, you know exactly what I'm referring to. Which is good - because it's pretty hard to describe. There are billboards advertising it's every offering (amusement rides, Tequila, Reptile Exhibit, Mexican hats, Diner, Fireworks, Taco's, etc.etc.) at random intervals from central North Carolina all the way to the South Carolina state line (hence, south of the border).  When we used to travel with the kids to see Grandma in Florida they always wanted to stop and of course, being the mean parents we were, we never did.  If Dylan and Nick are reading this - Sorry!  But really, you didn't miss any life-altering event. We decided to stay over because they have a campground that surprisingly got pretty good ratings. Turns out it is a very popular stayover spot for all those RVers traveling from the Northeast to the South and back again over the winter months.  We were happy to settle in to a camp spot with full hook-ups so we could finally flush out our water system fully after de-winterizing. We also needed to dump our tanks, and welcomed unlimited electricity for the night so we could cook in the microwave and fully charge up all of our devices (laptops, phones, etc.) which had been charging off the van battery each day as we traveled. Spent a little while checking out all the amusing sights and got a small take-out order of loaded cheese and chili nachos to eat with our dinner in the van. Definitely not high-end food, but anyone who knows me well knows I have a soft spot for fake nacho cheese so it worked for me!  Watched some TV for the first time since we'd been in the van and turned in for a good night sleep. Had a bit of a mishap in the morning when we tried to get our hot water tank going for the first time and major water came gushing out of somewhere it definitely wasn't supposed to come out of! Determined it was an issue from the day before when we tried to turn on the hot water without realizing the valve was closed and there was actually no water in the hot water tank. Apparently it blew a safety valve and when we went to fill the tank, we didn't realize it was now un-capped. Got it all straightened out and are on our way again. Headed to Duncan, SC tonight to visit with my brother Jimmy.
