Good News from Dylan and Great Visit with Nick

Got in to Tallahassee mid-day on Friday excited about actually checking into a hotel. The usual excitements - hot shower, soft bed, TV and the chance to organize our stuff. Plus, we were excited about seeing Nick (our younger son)who was expected to arrive with his Ultimate Frisbee Team around 9PM. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and after cleaning up and relaxing a bit, I sat out at a picnic table and started fooling around with my Banjo that had been sitting in it's case for months. Realized that I could not find the "learn to play" booklet that came with the instrument so I went on line and looked at a good YouTube video on beginner playing. It's pretty intimidating. Having absolutely no musical background and an inability to read music, it's difficult to figure out how to get started.  I'll keep at it though, as I do really want to learn to play and it is such a beautiful instrument.

Had some fantastic news from Dylan (our older son) in the afternoon as he called to tell us that he had passed his Qualifying Exam for his PhD work at University of Delaware. Congratulations Dylan! It was a big accomplishment and one he had been working towards for 3+ years and sweating recently as it got closer. We knew he could do it - and we are so glad he did.

As anticipated, Nick arrived around 9:15 pm and we drove over to his hotel for big hug and to take him out for a drink.  Went to a great bar/brew pub called Proof Brewing Company for a few pints and some great conversation before returning Nick to his hotel to get some sleep after a long drive down from South Carolina. It was a great night, and really wonderful catching up with Nick after not seeing him for about a month. The next separations will be longer, so we will really appreciate and enjoy spending some time with him this weekend while he's here with his Carnegie-Melon teammates for the tournament.
